How to insert custom avatars on WordPress

Everybody asks how can we insert custom avatars on  WordPress, how to do that, a lot of people tryed to change the code, spam with a lot of plugins that don’t actually help out or even slows down your site. Today i’m going to show you how to do that in a minute, with optimized and clean plugin that won’t slow your site for a second..  Follow me step by step and enjoy!

Install plugin

First you need to install plugin  named WP User Avatar, when you have installed it just activate it and follow my next steps!

In the sidebar menu on your WordPress Dashboard you will see a new option Avatars (like in the picture below), click on it!

In this new page you can see some regular settings, you can modify them like you want. I will now explain each option, you just choose 🙂

  • Add avatar button to Visual Editor – With this option you can add extra options in visual editor ( add new post ), like in the picture – Capture With this option you can add links to someones profile on your site/blog and you’ll get avatar plus! Try it and you’ll know what’s that, i prefer to leave this checked.
  • Allow Contributors & Subscribers to upload avatars – When you check this your Contributors and Subscribers will get a option to put custom avatar, because i don’t have Contributors and Subscribers i will leave this unchecked.
  • Disable Gravatar and use only local avatars – You can disable Gravatar avatars and use only local avatars, i won’t check this!

Avatar Display

  • Show Avatars – check this if you want to show avatars, plugin will be activated.

Maximum Rating

This option we can’t explain to you because it depends of what your site content is and visitors, 90% users check first box so do it.

Default Avatar

Here you can edit default avatar for those who don’t choose their own avatar, you can upload your own default avatar or use their default avatars.

Edit profile

Now when you set up settings you can edit your profile image, in the upper right corner you can see “Edit My Profile” link, like in the picture below, click on it!

Now scroll down at the bottom, you will see Avatar section and a place for uploading image, upload any image you want or choose from media library.

That’s it, now you’ll have a custom avatar on your WordPress site/blog, i hope that this tutorial helped you out and keep following us! CHEERS!
